About The Position

US Heart and Vascular is in need of a PRN Registered Nurse to join our team at Cardiology Specialist of Acadiana ASC in Lafayette, LA. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting the daily care of assigned patients. This role involves identifying nursing diagnoses and care needs, developing and revising care plans, and executing physician orders. The nurse will administer medications and treatments, deliver culturally congruent and specialty-appropriate nursing care, and perform routine technical procedures/skills in the Cath Lab and EP specialty areas. The position requires the ability to function independently in various departmental roles (circulator, monitor, scrub, recovery), identify and address patient safety concerns, and maintain accurate, concise documentation. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge and skills to interpret and respond to patient data and hemodynamic responses during pre-, intra-, and post-Cath and EP procedures, identify cardiac rhythms, and intervene appropriately. Competency in using medications, including cardiac drugs, emergency drugs, moderate sedation, and reversal agents, is essential. The role supports a healthy work environment through respectful communication and professionalism, even in high-stress situations. The nurse should be open to change, actively seek knowledge, and promote understanding of changes to colleagues. Compliance with periodic USHV and unit-specific health screenings, training, attendance, safety, CPR, and ACLS requirements is mandatory. Other duties include quality control and assurance audits, environmental rounds, supply management, and tasks deemed necessary by the center's director.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a current license or valid permit to practice in state where ASC is located.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Saving (ACLS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) are required.
  • RN degree from an accredited school.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
  • Routine exposure to radiation is necessary.
  • Travel to additional satellite procedure locations may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiovascular certifications such as CVRN II or higher, CCRN, RCIS, and RCES are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily care of assigned patients.
  • Identifies actual and potential nursing diagnoses/patient care needs; develops and individualizes care plan and revises plan of care as needed.
  • Competently and independently plans, coordinates, and prioritizes patient care activities according to skill level and work complexity.
  • Executes physician orders for all assigned patients.
  • Administers medications and treatments and delivers culturally congruent and specialty-appropriate competent nursing care under policies, procedures, and standards in a caring and compassionate manner.
  • Competently and independently performs routine technical procedures/skills in an assigned specialty area: Cath Lab and EP procedures.
  • Competently demonstrates knowledge and skills to perform Cath Lab and EP procedures and utilize equipment.
  • Independently capable of performing different aspects of responsibilities within the department, such as circulator, monitor, scrub, and recovery area personnel.
  • Identifies patient safety concerns and reports appropriately; addresses immediate safety concerns appropriately.
  • Competently and consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation on all patient, unit, and ASC records (including care delivery and telephone patient-related interactions).
  • Demonstrates competent knowledge and skills to interpret and respond to patient data and hemodynamic responses throughout all phases of care: pre-, intra-, and post-Cath and EP procedures.
  • Competent in identifying cardiac rhythms, waveforms, and abnormal ranges and taking appropriate intervention.
  • Competently demonstrates knowledge and competency in the use of medications, including cardiac medications, emergency drugs, moderate sedation, and reversal agents.
  • Competently and consistently produces accurate and concise documentation of the procedural event, including monitoring per the moderate sedation policy.
  • Supports healthy work environment by demonstrating respectful verbal and non-verbal communication with all members of the healthcare team; may seek support with challenging communication issues; Maintains professionalism and communicates effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Demonstrates openness to change by actively seeking knowledge and needed information; uses positive communication and role modeling to promote understanding of change to colleagues.
  • Meets periodic USHV and unit-specific health screening, training, attendance, safety, CPR, and ACLS compliance requirements.
  • Other duties assigned include quality control and assurance audits, environmental rounds, supply management, and any tasks deemed necessary by the center's director.
