About The Position

Manages individualized, goal directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This role involves assessing and diagnosing patient and family needs, developing and communicating care plans, implementing medical plans and nursing interventions, and evaluating patient responses to ensure quality care. The position requires maintaining accurate documentation, functioning as a role model, and performing duties specific to the Emergency Department, including addressing the unique needs of patients of all ages. The nurse must attend all required safety training, follow hospital exposure control plans, and demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all individuals. Additionally, the role involves promoting effective working relationships, assuming responsibility for daily personnel assignment and patient care monitoring, attending mandatory meetings and inservices, and actively participating in quality improvement activities and nursing committees.

Requirements

Current License in the State of Michigan
BLS is required within 60 days of hire
ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP is required within 12 months of hire
Graduate of school of Nursing.
Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure
Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills.
Willingness to crossflow to other clinical areas as needed and/or directed by leadership
Emergency Department, Emergency Services, or Critical Care experience

Nice To Haves

EPIC experience is preferred
Telemetry experience preferred, must complete competency test upon hire and annually or complete an EKG class and testing within 6 months of hire.
NCI Training within 9 months of hire

Responsibilities

Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other in order to address all identified needs.
Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
Evaluates the identified problems, care provided and patient’s responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to assure overall quality of care delivered.
Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to ensure quality care.
Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Emergency Department as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to the age of the patient served.
As necessary, performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Emergency Department as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities in accordance with established standards.
Attends annual skills presentations and other mandatory meetings/inservices (fire, infection control). Attends regularly scheduled unit meetings. Attends a minimum of 75% of unit meetings. Attendance allows for clarification and discussion of items pertinent to the Hospital and unit. The associate is 100% responsible for the meeting minutes/contents and must sign that they have read the meeting minutes and had the opportunity to ask questions of their manager. The associate will be held accountable for and discussed changes in policy and procedure whether unit specific or Hospital wide.
Work assignments will be assigned by leadership based on organizational and/or department needs
Actively participates in Quality activities, Nursing Committees/Councils, and other applicable activities related to the care plan of the patient within and beyond the hospital care provided
