About The Position

The Inpatient Wound Care Coordinator works collaboratively with the Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Director. This role communicates and collaborates closely with physicians, inpatient nurse managers, and other members of the healthcare team to provide consistent quality care for patients with wounds. The coordinator supports all inpatient activities to advance the Pressure Ulcer Prevention (P.U.P.) and Wound Care Program. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Wound Care Coordinator accepts responsibility and accountability for assigned patients to implement and evaluate care for adult and geriatric clients. The RN works within the framework of the Florida State Nurse Practice Act and follows all hospital policies and procedures. They will demonstrate competence in key areas by performing functions including, but not limited to, the common examples listed, while complying with hospital and nursing philosophy and standards.

Requirements

• Florida Nursing License
• BLS
• ACLS

Nice To Haves

• Certification in Wound Care and Ostemy Care preferred

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and supervises patient care in the inpatient settings, as it correlates to wound care.
• Gives care to the patient, reflecting flexibility in rules and regulations, as indicated by individual patient needs, as it correlates to wound care.
• Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment.
• Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, as indicated, and evaluates for effectiveness, as it correlates to wound care.
• Formulates a teaching plan, based on identified staff and patient learning needs, and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family included in teaching, as appropriate, from admission to discharge.
• Identifies wound changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner. Knowledge of skin care, pressure ulcer prevention, and TX.
• Demonstrates an ability to select the most appropriate support surface for the patient.
