Requirements

  • Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) is required.
  • Current RN licensure by the Virginia Board of Nursing is required.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
  • Computer literacy required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assesses all wound, ostomy, and continence patients.
  • Documents all pertinent wound/ostomy/continence information in the medical record. This includes, but is not limited to, wound measurements, descriptions, photographs, current treatment regimen, and interventions in place.
  • Accurately inputs charges for procedures in the medical record.
  • Uses critical thinking skills and evidence-based practice in the evaluation and selection of patient care products.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the application of wound dressings.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the evaluation of ostomies and ostomy appliances.
  • Professionally communicates with and educates the patient care team.
  • Professionally communicates with and educates the patient and their family or other caregivers.
  • Collaborates with the patient care team and establishes a plan of care using evidenced based practice. This also includes discharge planning, education, and DME supplies.
  • Serves as a consultant and nurse expert providing evidence-based guidance and instruction on complex wound, ostomy and continence issues to peers, hospital committees, other entities, and home health agencies.
  • Seeks out or maintains certification. Actively participates in continuing education and stays abreast of best practices in the field.
