About The Position

At NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens, the Registered Nurse – Wound and Ostomy Care Specialist provides pre- and post-operative wound and ostomy treatment and education to patients and their families. The role involves working independently while participating in shared clinical decision-making with supportive colleagues and leadership. The nurse evaluates patient outcomes and participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives, including efforts to minimize patient readmissions. This is a per diem day-shift position, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., requiring at least one shift per biweekly pay period. The role requires on-site presence, and employees should live within commuting distance of NYP. Travel expenses are not reimbursed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
At least 3 years of acute care nursing experience focused on skin integrity, wound, ostomy, and incontinence management.
Wound Care Certification.
Ostomy Certification.
BCLS certification.
Current New York State Registered Nurse license.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills to drive engagement.
Ability to think independently and quickly resolve patient-care issues using the skills and knowledge of the interdisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

Applicable experience in an academic medical center, including experience partnering with interns, residents, and attending physicians.
Master’s degree preferred.
WOCN Certification.

Responsibilities

Deliver pre- and post-operative wound and ostomy treatment to patients.
Educate patients and their families about wound and ostomy care.
Evaluate patient outcomes regularly.
Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives, including efforts to minimize readmissions.
Work independently and contribute to shared clinical decision-making.
Resolve patient-care issues using the interdisciplinary team.
