Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Vascular Access Certification (VA-BC)
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with a strong preference in vascular access experience
  • Proficient in ultra-sound guided vascular access
  • Ability to make strong clinical judgements
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Responsibilities

  • Performing comprehensive vascular assessments
  • Insert & manage peripheral IV’s/midlines/PICC lines using ultrasound guidance and aseptic technique
  • Respond to VAT consults across ICU, PCU, Med/Surg, Maternal Child Health, and ED
  • Monitor & trouble shoot vascular access devices for patency/infection/mechanical issues
  • Educate patient & staff
  • Maintain accurate documentation
  • Adhere to infection control protocols & hospital policies
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Serve as a resource & mentor to nursing staff regarding vascular access best practices
  • Collaborate with leadership to grow & enhance the hospital’s vascular access program
