About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Utilization Management (UM) Coordinator delivers fundamental knowledge-based care while developing technical and clinical competencies. The role focuses on individual growth and development in practice, with increasing levels of self-direction. The nurse uses UM criteria to perform basic reviews while developing the skills and judgment to apply the nursing process in real situations. This is a novice role in which the nurse works closely with a UM preceptor and applies nursing principles and theory while building critical-thinking skills. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care using age-specific components. The position coordinates care throughout the continuum, with a focus on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction; follows established policies and guidelines; and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to influence care outcomes.
