Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Urgent Care nurses provide, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care rendered to patients with urgent, critical, emergent, or potential health problems in an outpatient or urgent care setting with a diverse range of illnesses and injuries.
  • Completes required orientation, residency, and training activities and participates in team based learning to support growth and integration into the urgent care clinic.
  • Applies foundational nursing knowledge, including urgent care principles, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and basic disease processes, to perform routine care while developing clinical judgment.
  • Performs basic patient assessment and monitoring, prioritizing care using standard triage tools in the urgent care setting.
  • Uses established protocols to assess and intervene for low to moderate acuity patients, following emergency and rapid response procedures as required.
  • Recognizes abnormal findings, seeks guidance as needed, promptly escalates concerns, clarifies care, and follows direction to support patient safety.
  • Demonstrates competency in core unit skills and workflows, performs and assists with urgent care procedures as appropriate, and follows established safety, clinical, and documentation standards.
  • Manages time effectively and prioritizes care appropriately in a fast paced urgent care environment.
  • Communicates clearly with patients, families, and team members and participates in team huddles, clinic initiatives, and timely professional communication to support effective team functioning.
  • Provides patient and family education and verifies understanding using basic teach back techniques.
  • At the discretion of department operational and patient care needs, this position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance during assigned shifts is considered an essential function of the role.
