The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care, while supporting professional nursing practice and the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model. The RN is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. They provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts, delegating patient care based on skill, experience, acuity, and resources. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential. Some employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of RN experience is required.
  • Currently working in direct patient care.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

  • Orthopedic and/or Operating Room nursing experience preferred.
  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.
  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Management of the Donor program including recruitment of bone/cartilage tissue donors and file maintenance.
  • Coordinate ordering and disposition of tissue.
  • Collaborate with Bone Bank staff and provider teams for tissue needs and maintenance.
  • Contact for institutional Quality program for tissue bank needs.
  • Participate in Joint Commission and FDA reviews.
  • Coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care.
  • Support professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Provide leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources.
  • Possess excellent communication skills; be skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
  • A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
