About The Position

This is a Registered Nurse position on the River 6 Surgical Unit, a dynamic 43-bed acute care floor specializing in pediatric patients across the age continuum. The unit serves various services including Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Organ Failure and Transplant, Dialysis, and Neonatology, and receives transfers from NICU, PICU, and CVICU, offering high-acuity assignments. New hires will join a supportive team that fosters growth and development through RN-led committees, pediatric certification, mentoring, and precepting. Nurses will have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients undergoing multiple surgeries throughout their childhood. Support is provided through preceptors, charge nurses, unit-based educators, and clinical specialists during an orientation tailored to individual experience and needs. The RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies and guidelines. Responsibilities include providing safe, family-centered patient care, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care collaboratively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. The role may involve supervising and delegating tasks to other healthcare professionals. The RN will also assist in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Inclusion Diversity Equity and Access (IDEA) into daily work.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions at time of hire unless the incumbent possesses a current appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area.
  • PEARS or PALS will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.
  • Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position.
  • Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain PEARS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times: Acute Care Float, Apheresis Services, Bellevue, Cancer Care Unit, Dialysis, Hematology & Oncology Clinic, Home Care Infusion Therapy, Immunology, Infusion, Medical Unit, Psychiatric Unit, Rehabilitation Unit, Research nurses working in Cancer Care and CCTR, Surgical Unit, Urgent Care (all locations), Vascular Access Services

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Pediatric health care nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Providing safe, family centered patient care.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team.
  • May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.
