Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Current Missouri RN License
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; NRP preferred. If certifications are not current upon hire, must complete within six months.
  • Minimum 2 years of Acute Care experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessments in an efficient manner, including full body system analysis, identifying and recognizing abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, establishing priorities, and taking appropriate action. Administers and performs nursing assessment in accordance with the applicable patient type which may include: Medical, Surgical, Obstetrical, Newborn, Pediatric, and or Telemetry/cardiac patients.
  • Performs all aspects of blood component administration by following applicable procedures and protocols, including lab procedure for sign out, obtaining patient consent appropriately, ensuring identification and documentation procedures are followed, and monitoring and responding to untoward events.
  • Performs intravenous therapy dynamics by following administration principles in an effective manner, including monitoring fluid replacement/electrolyte imbalance, handling I.V. related equipment, performing I.V. access skills, administering I.V. Additives, and performing PICC, midline, port access and maintenance.
  • Collaborates with Medical Staff, management, and other health care providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care from admission through discharge. Promotes team concept through effective communication, works effectively with ancillary areas, directs patient support team members, demonstrates initiative and flexibility, and informs and involves manager regarding patient care issues.
  • Maintains and performs all patient related documentation, utilizing only approved abbreviations, accurately reflecting the plan of care, and following all policies and procedures related to documentation requirements.
  • Performs Emergency treatment as required, initiating or assisting in patient care, triaging situations, administering emergent care in accordance with applicable patient population type, following standards of BLS, ACLS, NRP, and emergency policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Promotes and ensures patient safety in all aspects of responsibilities, including safe administration of medications, utilizing proper body mechanics and transfer/lifting techniques, implementing infectious disease controls, and following proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
  • Performs OR Circulating Duties, observing surgical staff for sterile technique, maintaining patient’s body temperature, assisting with patient positioning, accompanying patient from OR to the RR, giving a detailed report to the RR nurse, and ensuring family notification of patient’s condition.
  • Completes other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to: performing Recovery Room Nurse Duties, assisting with outpatient procedures, assisting with Surgery and OP procedure scheduling, reviewing preoperative lab results, EKG’s, and H&P prior to day of procedure, assisting with Quality Assurance and Infection Control Audits, participating in a rotating on call schedule, and performing First Assistant scrub duties after adequate training.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
