About The Position

Trillium Health Partners is one of Canada’s largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto, and surrounding communities. The 4J Neurosurgery unit provides care for patients admitted electively for planned surgery as well as through our Emergency Department and Critical Care services. This 14-bed unit supports the care of patients diagnosed with brain tumours, subdural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and arterial venous malformations. As the Regional Centre for Neurosurgery, 4J Neurosurgery offers a wealth of learning opportunities in peri-operative nursing. The unit is supported by an inter-disciplinary team of RNs and RPNs, CQCL, Charge Nurses, Physician Assistants, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, OTA/PTAs, Speech Language Pathologists, Discharge Planners, Dieticians, Pharmacists, and Neurosurgeons. The team provides exceptional, patient-centred care in a collaborative and integrated manner. As part of an academic centre, the team participates in ongoing research, quality improvement, and professional development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
  • Current BCLS is required
  • Self-directed professional, able to work effectively and collaboratively in a high performance inter-professional team
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • A positive work and attendance record is essential
  • Coronary Care Level 1 Required
  • Neuroscience Nursing Certificate Required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous neurosurgery nursing experience or keen interest in Neuroscience an asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for decisions and actions in the provision and management of nursing care for patients.
  • Provides nursing assessment, contributes to care plan development, goal-oriented treatment interventions, patient and family education and support to address medical, cognitive, emotional and self-care needs.
  • Contributes to the development of a realistic discharge plan.
  • Perform as a coach/mentor/consultant and use sound critical thinking skills, which are key to achieving patient outcomes and facilitating team function.
  • Participate in program planning, continuous quality improvement and evaluation.
