The Registered Nurse (RN) in Surgical Services, specifically on Gonda 7, will primarily work in either the operating room or the Pre/Post Op area. RNs may be trained in other roles for cross-coverage as needed. The Ambulatory Care RN is accountable for direct patient care and patient education in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include perioperative care as a circulating RN in the operating room, coordination and delivery of perianesthesia care in the pre-post area, and providing moderate sedation under the direction of an Anesthesiologist or proceduralist in the Gonda 7 Outpatient Procedure Center. The RN plans, implements, and evaluates patient care, teaches patients and families, and orients colleagues and peers. The RN is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care, supporting professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care. The RN functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The role involves leadership through preceptor roles, informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential. Participation in committees or projects may be required. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle for role responsibilities. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program recognized by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA.
  • One year of professional RN experience required.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
