About The Position

The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, evaluating, and delivering safe, appropriate care to patients in the Perioperative setting, specifically in Pre-Op and PACU. This role requires availability for on-call duties. The Registered Nurse at GRMC operates with a high degree of autonomy, performing comprehensive health data collection and analysis to formulate nursing diagnoses and individualized care plans. Key aspects include identifying patient outcomes, implementing interventions, and continuously evaluating patient progress. The role also encompasses systematically evaluating the quality of nursing practice, engaging in self-appraisal, maintaining current knowledge through ongoing education, contributing to peer development, adhering to ethical standards, collaborating with healthcare providers, and optimizing resource utilization. Additionally, the Registered Nurse may be involved in training and supervising students from affiliated organizations.

Requirements

  • Current New Mexico or multi-state RN License
  • Current BLS (AHA) certification upon hire
  • AHA ACLS required or within 6 months of hire
  • AHA PALS required or within 6 months of hire
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing (for external applicants)

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, direct, evaluate, and deliver safe, appropriate care to patients in the Perioperative setting.
  • Work in Pre-Op and PACU patient care settings.
  • Take on-call as scheduled.
  • Collect health data, determining priority and using appropriate assessment techniques.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and formulate a nursing plan of care.
  • Identify individualized expected outcomes for patients, documented as measurable goals.
  • Develop and document a care plan that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes, ensuring continuity of care and discharge follow-up.
  • Implement interventions identified in the care plan in a safe, appropriate, and timely manner.
  • Evaluate the patient's progress toward attainment of outcomes, revising diagnoses, outcomes, and care plans as needed.
  • Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and participate in quality-of-care activities.
  • Evaluate own nursing practice in relation to professional standards and regulations, engaging in performance appraisal and seeking professional development.
  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge in nursing practice through ongoing educational activities and clinical skill maintenance.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others by sharing knowledge and providing constructive feedback.
  • Ensure decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner, guided by professional codes and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with patients, significant others, and health care providers in providing patient care, including communication, consultation, and referrals.
  • Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care, and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Train, educate, supervise, and evaluate students from outside entities with established Affiliation Agreements.
