About The Position

This role is responsible for managing nursing care of the surgical patient within the operating room, focusing on activities outside the sterile field. The nurse will collaborate with the healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring the completeness of patient charts and serving as a communication liaison for families and the operating team. Responsibilities include providing bedside care, administering medications, initiating and managing IVs, conducting ongoing patient assessments, and performing ordered treatments accurately and promptly. The nurse will also communicate patient care information to team members, respond to crisis situations, document patient progress, manage pain, monitor sterile techniques, and ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available and in good working order. Participation in department inventory and cleaning is also expected.

Requirements

Active Kentucky Registered Nurse Licensure
BLS Certification
ACLS Certification
Surgical experience

Responsibilities

Manage nursing care of the surgical patient in the room, focusing on activities outside the sterile field.
Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Review patient's medical record and assure the completeness of the patient chart.
Serve as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
Provide basic, bedside care.
Prepare and administer (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and record prescribed medications.
Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV's.
Conduct ongoing assessments and reprioritize care accordingly.
Perform appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
Communicate appropriate information to all team members concerning patient care throughout the perioperative stay.
Recognize and respond appropriately to crisis situations, during the perioperative phase, seeking assistance as needed.
Document patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress toward problem resolution.
Assess pain upon admission and throughout stay and utilize appropriate pain management techniques.
Monitor sterile and aseptic techniques in all areas of the perioperative process.
Provide necessary material, supplies, and equipment in good working order for the completion of quality patient care throughout the perioperative care.
Participate in department inventory and routine cleaning of the department.
