About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgery department is directly accountable to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, and indirectly to the House Supervisor. This role is responsible for delivering direct and indirect patient care in the peri-operative setting using the nursing process. The RN will coordinate patient care with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, and will direct and guide the OR Technician and other personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards. This position involves working with other departments to ensure a continuum of care and collaborating with co-workers to provide continuous, quality patient care, efficient patient flow, and unit maintenance. The RN is responsible for adhering to regulations, standards, and hospital or unit policies and procedures, and for participating in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings, and in-services. The RN will also act as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.

Requirements

Current and valid state RN License.
Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
Current ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
Current PALS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
Minimum of one year previous Perioperative experience or on the job training.

Nice To Haves

Certified Nurse OR (CNOR) Certification (AORN) preferred.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Responsibilities

Deliver direct and indirect patient care in the peri-operative setting through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and older adults.
Coordinate the care of the patient with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.
Direct and guide the OR Technician and other personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
Work with other departments to provide a continuum of care.
Collaborate with co-workers to provide continuous, quality patient care, efficient patient flow and unit maintenance and organization.
Ensure adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
Participate in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services.
Act as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.
