About The Position

This position is responsible for activities outside the sterile field in the operating room and for managing the nursing care of the surgical patient within the room. The role involves consulting and coordinating with the healthcare team, reviewing patient records, and serving as a communication liaison. The nurse will provide bedside care, administer medications, manage IVs, conduct ongoing assessments, and perform ordered treatments. Effective communication with team members regarding patient care throughout the perioperative stay is crucial. The role also requires recognizing and responding to crisis situations, documenting patient care, managing pain, monitoring sterile techniques, and ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available and in good working order. Participation in department inventory and cleaning is also expected.

Requirements

  • Active Kentucky Registered Nurse Licensure
  • BLS and ACLS Certification
  • Surgical experience Required

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for activities of the operating room outside the sterile field and for managing nursing care of the surgical patient in the room.
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Reviews patient's medical record and assures the completeness of the patient chart.
  • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
  • Provides basic, bedside care.
  • Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications.
  • Initiates, maintains and discontinues IV's.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments and reprioritizes care accordingly.
  • Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates appropriate information to all team members concerning patient care throughout the perioperative stay.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to crisis situations, during the perioperative phase, seeking assistance as needed.
  • Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress toward problem resolution.
  • Assesses pain upon admission and throughout stay and utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Monitors sterile and aseptic techniques in all areas of the perioperative process.
  • Provides necessary material, supplies, and equipment in good working order for the completion of quality patient care throughout the perioperative care.
  • Participates in department inventory and routine cleaning of the department.
