About The Position

This full-time role includes a flexible schedule with rotating overlaps, fostering a dynamic work environment. In our Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU)—an 18-bed unit for critical care—we prioritize excellence. You will receive specialized training in CORE EKG, hemodynamics, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, and Ventilator/Respiratory care. The Nurse Leader (NL) is a licensed registered nurse (RN) accountable for leading, managing & advancing people, processes & / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The NL promotes & advocates for patients, nurses / colleagues & the practice of nursing as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise & assignment. Note: “patients” refers to patients, clients, residents, participants, customers, members”.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Certification/licensure as required by regulatory agency.
  • Actively working toward an advanced degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years progressive experience in critical care and/or leadership preferred.
  • Experience in related field will be considered based on specific department needs and/or requirements.
  • Strong clinical skills, leadership qualities.
  • Specialty credentialing & educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred.
  • Participates in continuing education, updates and maintains knowledge and skills as content expert for specific areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements staffing plans to ensure adequate care coverage and adjusts unit productivity to meet targets.
  • Coordinates patient admissions, discharges, and transfers for optimal bed utilization in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator Office.
  • Manages urgent/emergent situations by reallocating personnel and resources as needed.
  • Participate in hiring, evaluating, initiating corrective action and terminating employees as necessary.
  • Educates team members in clinical competencies.
  • Ensures quality nursing care per New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
  • Promotes & advocates for patients, nurses / colleagues & the practice of nursing as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise & assignment.
