About The Position

In our Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU)—an 18-bed unit for critical care—we prioritize excellence. You will receive specialized training in CORE EKG, hemodynamics, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, and Ventilator/Respiratory care. The Nurse Leader (NL) is a licensed registered nurse (RN) accountable for leading, managing & advancing people, processes & / or programs that support direct or indirect patient care. The NL promotes & advocates for patients, nurses / colleagues & the practice of nursing as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise & assignment. Note: “patients” refers to patients, clients, residents, participants, customers, members”.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
Certification/licensure as required by regulatory agency.
Actively working toward an advanced degree.

Nice To Haves

Two years progressive experience in critical care and/or leadership preferred.
Experience in related field will be considered based on specific department needs and/or requirements.
Strong clinical skills, leadership qualities.
Specialty credentialing & educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred.
Participates in continuing education, updates and maintains knowledge and skills as content expert for specific areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

Develops, coordinates, and implements staffing plans to ensure adequate care coverage and adjusts unit productivity to meet targets.
Coordinates patient admissions, discharges, and transfers for optimal bed utilization in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator Office.
Manages urgent/emergent situations by reallocating personnel and resources as needed.
Participate in hiring, evaluating, initiating corrective action and terminating employees as necessary.
Educates team members in clinical competencies.
Ensures quality nursing care per New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
Promotes & advocates for patients, nurses / colleagues & the practice of nursing as defined by clinical area(s) of expertise & assignment.
