About The Position

Interfaith Community Services is North County's largest social services agency, dedicated to empowering individuals experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty towards self-sufficiency since 1979. The organization impacts over 20,000 community members annually through a variety of programs including basic needs support, social services, shelter, employment development, senior services, veterans programs, and addiction recovery. With a network of over 250 faith communities, 1,700 volunteers, and a staff of over 275, Interfaith provides a safe haven and a pathway to self-sufficiency. This role is for a Registered Nurse Supervisor who is passionate about making a difference in a service-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, required
  • An Active CA Registered Nurse License, required
  • Two-Five years of clinical nursing experience, required
  • Two-Five years of experience working in a Social Services, nonprofit, community health or residential care setting, required
  • Two-Five years of experience in a supervisory role or a role with increasing responsibility in behavioral health, homeless services, or medical respite, required
  • Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage high-acuity cases.
  • Ability to apply methods and techniques of professional nursing
  • Requires knowledge and support of “Housing First” philosophy and strategies, as well as low-barrier shelters model
  • Strong working knowledge of the grants and contracts
  • Knowledge of all guidelines and regulations in the Americans with Disability Act
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with clients
  • Ability to identify problems, and research and recommend resolutions
  • Ability to react calmly to emergency situations
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly listening, mediation, and writing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, severely mentally ill, medically fragile and substance use and population, preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers (American Heart Association preferred) to be completed within three (3) months of hire
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, and clinical oversight to nursing staff, including Licensed Vocational Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants.
  • Screen referrals and coordinate intakes from inquiries received from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, local contracted hospitals, Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans and other partnering agencies.
  • Determine whether referred individuals are medically and psychiatrically stable for safe on-site admission, including evaluation of neurological status and level of consciousness.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign general healthcare tasks to clinical support team members to ensure effective workflow and quality care delivery.
  • Support staff in managing high-acuity cases, crisis situations, and complex client needs.
  • Assist in creating, implementing, and maintaining nursing policies and procedures to foster a structured, compliant, and positive work environment.
  • Manage medication support processes; ensure clear communication with the nursing and program inter-disciplinary team members to prevent medication related errors.
  • Serve as a primary point of communication between clients, nursing staff, and medical providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Oversee client admissions, care progression, and discharge processes to ensure safe and appropriate transitions.
  • Provide ongoing education to staff by maintaining knowledge of current trends and best practices in nursing within a recuperative care/medical respite setting.
  • Encourage adherence to the highest standards of client care, safety, and professional practice.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and support staff performance through regular coaching, feedback, and formal performance reviews.
  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of nursing staff.
  • Ensure staff compliance with clinical protocols, regulatory standards, and organizational policies, including HIPAA requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of client and employee records to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and quality standards.
  • Facilitate team communication, lead or participate in case reviews, and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate ongoing staff development opportunities.
  • Address performance concerns in collaboration with the Program Manager, including documentation and corrective action as needed.
  • Provide guidance to newly licensed RNs, LVNs, CNAs, staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Assist with training and educate staff and clients on medical-related topics.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and collect client care metrics for process improvement measures to promote optimal client care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Complete assigned trainings and policies in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide daily supervision of tasks as well as direction and Interfaith leadership to the team.
  • Recommend hiring and firing decisions, conduct corrective action as needed, conduct performance evaluations, and identify and promote professional development opportunities.
  • Identify areas where volunteers are needed and work with the Lead Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting new volunteers to help further their capacity to serve clients.
