About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Spinal Cord Injury/Rehabilitation at the Milwaukee VAMC/CBOC Locations. The role involves providing comprehensive care to veterans with neurological and spinal cord injuries, developing individualized care plans, managing complications, educating patients and caregivers, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse will be responsible for accurate documentation in VA electronic health records and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Minimum of 12 months' experience in Spinal Cord Injury/Rehabilitation (not Long-Term Care/Nursing Home).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.

Nice To Haves

  • Inpatient Rehabilitation experience is preferred.
  • CRRN (Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of neurological and spinal cord injury patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on clinical findings.
  • Manage and respond to neuro-related complications such as autonomic dysreflexia and spasticity.
  • Educate Veterans and caregivers on condition management and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate holistic, Veteran-centered care.
  • Document all nursing care and assessments accurately in VA electronic health records (CPRS).
  • Participate in patient safety initiatives and quality improvement programs within the VA system.
