Registered Nurse (RN) - Special Care Nursery (NICU) - Training Opportunity
About The Position
This is a training opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) to work in the Special Care Nursery (NICU) at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC, with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). The role involves providing optimal neonatal care to patients and their families within a client and family-centred care model, adhering to the standards of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and organizational values. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of care for assigned patients in the Special Care Nursery. VCH is committed to enhancing nursing practice and quality of care through initiatives like minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs).
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Eligibility for post-basic training education, prioritized for applicants with 2 years recent acute med/surg experience.
- Successful completion of the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
- Agreement to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the applicable specialty area for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
- Must report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections as per Ministry of Health policy.

Responsibilities
- Provide optimal neonatal care to patients and their families within a client and family-centred care model.
- Use appropriate clinical judgment to provide optimal neonatal care.
- Perform assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and appropriate documentation of care for assigned patients in Special Care Nursery.
- Adhere to standards of professional nursing and patient care practice in accordance with Health Authority policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other members of the health care team.
