Registered Nurse Shift Supervisor (RN) - ICU
About The Position
This position is an integral part of the departmental leadership team, providing clinical supervision on a shift-by-shift basis. Key responsibilities include coordinating and assigning patient care, managing patient flow within the unit by facilitating admissions, discharges, and transfers, and coordinating unit staffing for upcoming shifts in collaboration with the Director/Clinical Manager, Coordinator, and/or House Officer. The role also involves serving as a clinical and leadership resource and role model for staff, and contributing supervisory input to department staff evaluations and performance reviews. The successful candidate will be expected to complete all established competencies for the position within a designated introductory period, in addition to performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- 1 year in an equivalent unit
- Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse
- Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
- ACLS/TNCC, PALS, NRP, S.T.A.B.L.E., Fetal Monitoring, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention are required depending on department hired. See applicable STAFF RN job description for requirements and grace periods.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Nursing or advanced degree in a related field
- 4 years in an equivalent unit
- National Specialty Certification
- ENPC preferred in the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical supervision on a shift basis.

- Function as a unit patient flow coordinator, facilitating admissions, discharges and transfers.
- Coordinate unit staffing for next shift with the Director/Clinical Manager, Coordinator and/or House Officer.
- Serve as a clinical and leadership resource and role model for the staff.
- Provide supervisory input into department staff evaluations and performance reviews.
- Complete established competencies for the position within designated introductory period.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
