About The Position

This position is primarily focused on supporting a student with congenital myasthenic syndrome, a condition that can cause muscle weakness and may affect breathing, eating, and physical activity. The student is stable and independent, with the RN’s role focused primarily on monitoring and supporting the student throughout the school day, particularly around eating, drinking, and activity. The role also includes a few routine medication passes. During periods when the student does not require direct nursing support, the RN will assist with appropriate health office and school nursing responsibilities. We’re looking for an RN who values consistency, communicates well, builds trust easily, and is comfortable independently monitoring a student while collaborating with school staff, family, and HealthBar’s clinical team. This role is a great fit for an RN who enjoys building strong relationships with students and providing individualized care in a school environment. Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within 90 days of hire
  • Background check and fingerprinting will be required for this role

Responsibilities

  • Providing individualized nursing care based on established health and care plans
  • Monitoring the student’s health status throughout the school day
  • Monitoring for changes in muscle strength, breathing, or overall condition
  • Providing support and monitoring during eating and drinking
  • Monitoring the student’s tolerance for physical activity and responding appropriately to changes
  • Administering medications as prescribed
  • Completing routine medication passes during the school day
  • Assessing and responding appropriately to illness, injuries, or changes in condition
  • Maintaining accurate health records and documenting care provided
  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators, family members, and other members of the student’s support team
  • Supporting safe participation in classroom activities and daily school routines
  • Assisting with general school health needs in the health office during periods when the student does not require direct nursing support
