About The Position

Provides professional nursing care to patients within the medical practice in support of, and as directed by, the physicians. Assists the physician in the treatment of patients and completes related clinical paperwork. The incumbent in this position shall carry out his or her responsibilities and integrate into his or her work ethic the Mercy Philosophy of caring for the sick and suffering, respect for human life and the dignity of each person, applying Christian values to all crucial human issues in the area over which he or she has responsibility. Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current, valid state nursing license
CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment

Responsibilities

Assess patients, review medical histories and chief complaints, and obtain and document vital signs
Prepare patients for examination and treatment while maintaining patient comfort and safety
Assist physicians with patient care, treatments and procedures
Perform nursing procedures specific to the clinical specialty
Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal injections as required
Perform IV therapy
Provide patient education and reinforce individualized care instructions
Respond to patient phone calls, coordinate with physicians and communicate follow-up information
Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record
Support laboratory and diagnostic procedures as needed
Properly handle and store medications
Respond appropriately to urgent or emergency situations that may arise in the medical office
Maintain examination rooms, medical equipment and supplies
Follow infection prevention, safety and universal precaution standards
Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
Support referrals and other clinical administrative needs to help ensure smooth coordination of patient care
