About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to support the infusion, medical oncology, and radiation oncology departments across multiple locations: Round Rock North, Georgetown East, and Harker Heights. This PRN position operates with regular clinic hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm) and does not require weekend, call, or major holiday work. The role requires a commitment of at least 24 hours per month. The position can be filled at Level 1, 2, or Sr, depending on the candidate's experience. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology/infusion.
  • IV Skills preferred.
  • ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification, OCN certification and/or oncology experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years nursing experience including at least one year in oncology preferred.
  • Five years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • IV Skills preferred.
  • ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification, OCN certification and/or oncology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
  • Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
  • Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
  • Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
  • Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices.
  • Facilitates clinical operations and patient care.
  • Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
  • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
