About The Position

This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on collecting high-quality plasma that becomes life-changing medicine. The position requires a commitment to customer service and quality. The nurse will determine donor eligibility, manage adverse events, review lab results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. They will work under the guidance of the Center Manager and Center Physician, adhering to regulations and supporting environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility as outlined in SOPs.
  • Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including standing orders from the Center Physician and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings to donors or guidance on medical/technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is needed.
  • Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats.
  • Perform as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations.
