About The Position

This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on ensuring the quality and safety of plasma collection, which is used to create life-changing medicines. The position involves determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues, adhering to industry regulations and BioLife's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed or certified as a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, and acceptance requirements.
  • Perform physical examinations and blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate and manage donor reactions according to SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing the Center Physician's standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
  • Provide center-level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).
