About The Position

Oneida Health Hospital is currently seeking a Full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for its Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU). This is a dual perioperative nursing position. It would be a 10 or 12 hour day position in ASU with PACU night call requirements (call during the week and weekend call rotation). This position not only specializes in preparing patients for surgery, but it also involves taking care of patients recovering immediately from anesthesia after surgeries; monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and watching for complications. This RN will provide immediate post-operative care, manage airway stability, educate families, and facilitate patient discharge or transfer to an inpatient units.

Requirements

  • Associate of Nursing (Required)
  • New York RN (Required)
  • BLS (Required)
  • ACLS (Required)
  • PALS (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Perioperative Nursing for 1 year minimal (Preferred)
  • Medical Surgical and/or Critical Care Nursing for 1 year minimal (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills in order to take care of adult and pediatric patients immediately after surgery ( Phase I care in PACU and/or Phase II care back in ASU).
  • Applying in-depth knowledge of patient safety and care when assessing patients pre and post-surgery
  • Assessing and treating patients' pain immediately post-surgery ( Phase I and/or Phase II) using different methods.
  • Accurately document all pre-operative findings, lab results, and patient history in the EMR.
  • Showcasing your superior communication skills as a team player.
  • Provide pre-operative care; initiating IVs, confirming NPO status, verifying/preparing the surgical site(s), ensuring all consent forms are correct, reviewing medications/allergies, and providing education to the patients/family members.
  • Using keen observation skills to assess if possible immediate interventions / treatments are warranted ( Pre, Phase I recovery, Phase II recovery).
  • Remaining calm and professional in crisis and emergent situations
  • Assuring patients that they are our number one priority and that their safety matters.
