Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient- and family-centered care. Demonstrates clinical competency using evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Incorporates safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement into care, and identifies patient, unit, and organizational priorities. Follows organizational policies and procedures, including requirements related to licensure, training, employee health, attendance, dress code, confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements and provides care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. The acute inpatient setting may require scheduling for weekends, holidays, and on-call work. The role involves assessing patients, developing and updating individualized care plans with patients, families, providers, and the interdisciplinary team, delivering and coordinating direct care, delegating tasks appropriately, monitoring care quality and patient safety, and evaluating outcomes. The nurse also supports patient and family education, communicates across the healthcare continuum, maintains professional competence and licensure, and advocates for patients while coordinating care. This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
