About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Registered Nurse (RN) to join their team of medical professionals in Pueblo, Colorado. This role involves managing all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Pueblo County Detention Center. As a Correctional MAT RN, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals in a controlled environment where security is a top priority. The role is engaging, with duties including patient assessments, administering medications, coordinating care, and responding to emergencies. Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within CO.
  • Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association REQUIRED).
  • Five years’ experience as an RN with at least one year of experience in the field of substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed.
  • Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.

Responsibilities

  • Performing comprehensive patient assessments to determine eligibility for MAT, including medical history, substance use history, mental health evaluation, and physical examination.
  • Administering MAT medications as prescribed, ensuring proper dosing, and monitoring for adverse effects and drug interactions.
  • Educating patients about MAT medications, potential side effects, and the importance of medication adherence, addressing misconceptions and stigma.
  • Monitoring patients in the induction, stabilization, and maintenance phases of treatment, ensuring adherence to the program.
  • Collaborating with the MAT team, including physicians, counselors, and other nurses, to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management, counseling, and other support services.
  • Communicating patient status changes to the care team, which may include providers, behavioral health specialists, and other support staff.
  • Accurately documenting patient assessments, interventions, and progress in the EHR.
  • Providing all phases of patient support and treatment including nursing visits, urine toxicology screens, labs, medication education, pill counts, observing dosing, and medication refills.
  • Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
  • Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.
