About The Position

The Behavioral Health Intake Department is located in the ED but staffed with Behavioral Health Nurses. The Intake Department assesses all patients that present for possible admission to one of the Behavioral Health units. The Intake nurses are competent in psychiatric assessment skills and work closely with the Psychiatrist to determine disposition for each patient. Performs care requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical and social sciences in the application of the nursing process. Utilizes high-level assessment skills to design and ensure multidisciplinary patient care to meet holistic needs, incorporating established practice guidelines and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required
  • Current Kentucky RN license or Kentucky work permit required
  • Associate degree required
  • No experience required
  • BLS through the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, high-quality patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans.
  • Monitors patient conditions, administers treatments and physician orders, and documents patient care accurately.
  • Educates patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and discharge needs.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes and continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, clinical judgment, leadership, and teamwork in daily nursing practice.
  • Maintains compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, licensure, and continuing education standards.
