Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Knowledge of addiction and drug treatment preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listen and get clarification; respond well to questions; demonstrate group presentation skills; and participate in meetings.
  • Working knowledge of EMR
  • Current RN License in the State of operations required
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • CARN encouraged

Responsibilities

  • Perform an accurate assessment of newly admitted patients, including fall risk and SBQR assessments, and establish precautionary measures.
  • Perform accurate assessments for safe detox using COWS & CIWAS.
  • Contact the appropriate team member for non-life-threatening medical and medication issues to obtain guidance and document in the EMR.
  • Coordinate with medical providers and the interdisciplinary team on the plan of care to provide individualized treatment and ensure care plans are current.
  • Respond to medical and psychiatric concomitants in treatment and develop appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching patients about their condition, medications, and self-care, and answering patient questions.
  • Cross-train in medication administration to complete safe medication passes following Board of Nursing standards.
  • Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals, making adjustments, and following philosophies and standards of care set by the State Board of Nursing and other governing agencies.
  • Resolve patient problems and needs using multidisciplinary team strategies, including de-escalation techniques.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance handling.
  • Maintain continuity among teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensure compliance with Patient Privacy, HIPPA, and Joint Commission Standards.
  • Provide oversight to ensure face checks are completed based on hospital policy.
  • Respond appropriately to all Code Calls.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
  • Provide CEU documents for annual review.
  • Follow the incident reporting policy and procedure for reporting any unsafe/unusual safety issues.
  • Function as a role model for nursing staff and role model problem-solving for conflict resolution.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and other members of the health care team.
  • Effectively prioritize communication issues pertaining to all departments and provide collaborative intervention as necessary.
  • Provide clinical direction to staff and evaluate the level of care provided by nursing staff on assigned shifts, holding staff accountable for functioning in a reduced risk manner.
  • Function with an awareness of patient safety issues and apply basic principles of safety.
  • Mentor and assist with providing essential training to new staff.
  • Assist in the development of the discharge plan and review and educate patients on the discharge plan.
  • Communicate pertinent data regarding patient activity or needs to the incoming RN at the end of the shift.
  • Treat patients and colleagues with dignity and respect, honor each person's right to privacy, maintain strict patient and colleague confidentiality, respect all individuals' differences, and support cultural diversity.
  • Consistently arrive to work on time and adhere to attendance policies.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
