About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care centered on the patient as a whole person and helps create a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. The RN respects each patient’s dignity and individuality, and bases nursing practice on evidence, current research, hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making uses the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. The RN supports nursing excellence and works collaboratively with nursing staff and other disciplines while demonstrating compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy. More than 50% of the clinical nurse’s time is spent coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care. Responsibilities include rounds, assessments and treatments; admission, transfer, and discharge activities; patient- and family-centered education; care coordination; and individualized treatment planning as applicable. The position is on 4H, a 23-bed telemetry unit specializing in post-operative CABG and other cardiac surgery patients, CHF, and moderate-risk chest pain. Patients may have multiple comorbidities and complex care needs and may be transferred from the ICU, ED, or PACU. The schedule is full-time nights.

Requirements

Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.
A bachelor’s or associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Applicants with an associate degree in nursing and fewer than 10 years of experience must enroll in a bachelor’s degree program within 12 months of hire and achieve the degree within 5 years.
Basic life support.
ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of a dysrhythmia class, as required by the department of assignment.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, ensure, and provide direct patient care on the unit.
Conduct nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments.
Facilitate patient admission, transfer, and discharge activities.
Provide patient- and family-centered education.
Coordinate care and develop individualized treatment plans as applicable.
Use the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity in clinical decision-making.
Collaborate with nursing staff and other disciplines to promote nursing excellence and a healing environment.
Base nursing practice on evidence, current research, applicable policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.
Demonstrate compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy while honoring each patient’s dignity and individuality.
