About The Position

Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) is a 70-bed facility in South Central Virginia serving residents of more than seven counties, including North Carolina. CMH is a Primary Stroke Center able to manage acute ischemic strokes. The Acute Care unit includes three nursing units with 54 beds and cares for a diverse population, from pediatric to geriatric patients, including medical, telemetry, and surgical patients. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Nursing support includes patient care technicians, patient safety associates, unit secretaries, and cardiac monitor technicians. Hospitalist and ancillary support are available 24 hours a day. The community setting promotes a family- and patient-centered atmosphere and teamwork throughout the organization. Nursing leadership supports continuing education and opportunities to develop clinical knowledge and skills. The Clinical Nurse I, II, and III roles provide direct, age-specific care and accurate documentation according to medical orders and an integrated multidisciplinary plan of care. Nurses support illness and injury prevention, wellness, and comfort, and safely administer prescribed medications while identifying incompatibilities or interactions. Responsibilities and clinical autonomy vary by level: Clinical Nurse I integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge and begins to develop unit-level leadership skills; Clinical Nurse II demonstrates mastery of clinical skills, responds appropriately to changes in patient situations, mobilizes resources for patients and families, and assumes unit-level leadership responsibilities; Clinical Nurse III anticipates changes in patient situations and serves as a clinical role model. The position is described as a days role with three 12-hour shifts weekly, including every third weekend. The posting also states that clinicians work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays; shift rotations and schedules are set with the Nurse Manager or Practice Manager and may be adjusted to meet unit needs.
