About The Position
Our fast‑paced Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Carolinas Medical Center provides comprehensive, high‑acuity recovery care for patients emerging from surgery in a Level I Trauma Center. We care for a diverse and complex patient population, including trauma, emergent, and elective surgical cases across all specialties. Nurses in our PACU are highly skilled in critical assessment, hemodynamic stabilization, airway management, and rapid clinical decision‑making. Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship hospital of Atrium Health, which is distinguished throughout the Southeastern United States for its excellent patient care and medical expertise. CMC serves as the region’s only Level 1 Trauma center, is Magnet-designated, and also an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas and liver. We also serve as one of North Carolina’s five Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians in 15 specialties and serve as a satellite for the medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Requirements
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
Nice To Haves
- ACLS and PALS strongly preferred
- At least one year of previous critical care, emergency department or PACU experience strongly preferred.

- Providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process
- Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
