About The Position

This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary responsibilities include determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The position operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or manufacturing environments is expected, along with supporting environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions as outlined in SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including standing orders from the Center Physician and donor transport to emergency facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical/technical issues, and donor safety/eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Provide guidance regarding employee incidents based on EHS recommendations.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
  • Support plasma center operations.
