About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedure as directed by the physician. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Assists in covering the front desk as required. Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act. Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns. Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions. Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. Requirements

  • RN - Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing. Minimum of two (2) years college or associate degree. BSN preferred.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Current state registered nurse license.
  • Minimum of one to three (1-3) years working as a Registered Nurse required.
  • General office procedures
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to perform courteously and professionally in all interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five (3-5) years of related experience (preferred).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in decision-making and process improvement.
  • Communicates effectively within and beyond assigned team.

  • Assist with daily clerical operations, including answering multi-phone lines and making copies of documents as necessary.
  • Schedules patient appointments as necessary, return visits and Specialists.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are kept stocked and clean; also ensures that equipment is kept clean.
  • Distributes referrals as necessary to physicians and insurance companies; keep proper documentation of referral requests/responses in patient charts.
  • Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
  • Phone/faxing patient prescriptions as necessary.
  • Schedules tests as ordered by Provider.
  • Contacts patients with lab results and sends letters to patients as necessary.
  • Accurately performs clinical duties to include triaging patients, checking patient vitals, administering injections and venipunctures, and prepping patients for physician exam.
  • Accurately performs a variety of clinical testing, including EKG, PFT, PAP, CLIA waived lab tests, ear irrigations, 02 sats, vision/color charts, and urinalysis/hemoccult tests according to physician orders.
  • Labels patient specimens and completes lab slips accurately; separates lab slips monthly.
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete patient information forms prior to physician meeting with patient; assist physician with chart as necessary.
  • Adheres to IPM Safety and Quality guidelines.
  • Engage clients and families in the development and implementation of a care plan with evidence based patient education.
  • Triage patient concerns in accordance with evidence-based nursing judgement.
  • Appropriate response to crisis interventions and emergency response.
  • Performs advanced nursing procedures under the direction of the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider within the scope of licensure (may include IV medication administration, wound care, procedural assist).
  • Acts as a professional role model and mentor when coaching new team members on clinic workflows as related to clinical processes.
  • Serves as a resource to other members of the team for clinical work challenges.
  • Demonstrates and coaches an exceptional patient interaction process.
  • Assists the Practice Administrator in day-to-day operations to deliver the highest quality care to patients in an efficient manner as directed.
