About The Position
This role is for a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) at BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The primary focus is on supporting plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable results. The position operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operations and the Center Physician for medical issues, requiring familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations. The role also supports environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies according to SOPs, including physician's standing orders and donor transport.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings, medical or technical issues, and donor safety/eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
