About The Position

This is a 90% FTE position with an evening/night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, including weekend and holiday rotation. Hours are based on the operational needs of the department. The role is located at University Hospital in Madison, WI, within the UW Health Inpatient Pulmonary and Medical Intermediate Care (IMC) Unit. This unit is part of a Magnet-designated organization, recognized for nursing excellence and quality patient care. The unit has 29 beds and maintains safe nurse-to-patient staffing ratios, with a 1:2 RN-to-patient ratio for intermediate care patients. Nurses on this unit care for complex general care and intermediate care patients, including those with Cystic Fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and those post-lung transplant. UW Health boasts the #1 ranked lung transplant program nationally and is an accredited Pulmonary Hypertension Association center in Wisconsin. The role involves participating in cutting-edge, evidence-based therapies, research studies, quality improvement initiatives, and leading practice change. It offers the opportunity to develop expertise as a pulmonary medicine RN.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification Upon Hire
  • ACLS within 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
  • Relevant RN Experience
  • Relevant certification

Responsibilities

  • Care for complex general care and intermediate care level patients on the Pulmonary and Medical IMC unit.
  • Provide care for acutely ill patients, including those with a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, as well as patients post lung transplant.
  • Be involved in cutting edge, evidence-based therapies and research studies to improve patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and lead practice change.
  • Use critical thinking skills and become an expert pulmonary medicine RN.
