About The Position

The Wound Care Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering specialized wound care services, including patient assessment, direct care, clinical staff education, and family instruction to ensure effective treatment outcomes and support rehabilitation goals. Knoxville Rehabilitation Hospital is a state-of-the-art, 57-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation hospital dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals who have experienced the debilitating effects of a severe injury or illness. Our rehabilitation programs provide ongoing care and specialized treatment to patients throughout their recovery journey. We offer customized, individualized rehabilitation tailored to the specific needs of those recovering from a stroke, brain injury, neurological conditions, trauma, spinal cord injury, amputation, and orthopedic injury. Knoxville Rehabilitation Hospital strives to maximize the health, function, and quality of life of those we serve through comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation programs. We are accredited by The Joint Commission and CARF-accredited for our Stroke Specialty program.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program, accredited by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing, and all other appropriate accreditation required to obtain Registered Nursing license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in wound care required.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS preferred
  • WOCN certification preferred
  • Candidate will be expected to obtain WOCN Certification after one year of employment in role, if not previously certified.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments to identify wound care needs and appropriate interventions.
  • Evaluate patient progress and wound healing outcomes, adjusting care plans as needed.
  • Initiate and implement nursing interventions tailored to the patient’s condition.
  • Provide direct wound care based on patient condition and age-specific needs.
  • Educate patients and families on wound care procedures, prevention strategies, and discharge instructions.
  • Provide clinical staff education related to wound care treatment plans, procedures, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
