Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical Unit
About The Position
Join Aurora St. Luke's, a 6th Magnet-designated hospital, where the future of medicine is happening. This role is on a 26-bed post-operative surgical unit with 16 telemetry beds, caring for Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynecology, and Plastic Surgery patients. The unit is fast-paced and handles patients with various medical needs including abdominal drains, wound VACS, PCA pumps, epidurals, and tube feedings. Approximately 75% of patients are admitted from the PACU or step down from the Surgical ICU. Nurses typically manage 4-5 patients on day/PM shifts and 5-6 patients on the night shift. The unit is equipped to manage drips such as insulin, ketamine, dobutamine, heparin, and angiomax. This position is ideal for experienced Med-Surg nurses looking to advance their skills or new graduate nurses aiming for future roles in ICU, ED, OR, or as an NP. The unit is a top performer in quality outcomes and has a high rate of certified nurses, demonstrating a commitment to excellent clinical practice. Shared Governance is a key part of the unit's culture, giving nurses and nursing assistants a strong voice in daily operations. The unit also achieved top team member engagement scores in 2021.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
Responsibilities
- Play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process.
- Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Utilize evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, compassion, and communication skills.
- Lead efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
