About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Critical Care & Burn Unit at Texas Health Fort Worth. The unit, Justin 5, is a 35-bed integrated unit that provides higher-acuity surgical trauma and burn care, including treatment in a dedicated hydrotherapy procedure room. Staff are expected to work across both care areas. The facility is a MAGNET facility, a Level I Trauma Center, and a Primary Heart Attack Center (PHAC). The department prides itself on high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, offers self-scheduling for work/life balance, and has opportunities for educational and career growth. There is a Robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:3-4.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire.
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly.
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required.
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 60 days of hire.
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism.
  • Have basic computer skills using medical management application systems.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • TNCC or ATCN - within 12 months of hire preferred.
  • PCU and/or Critical Care experience preferred – will consider ED experience.
  • Burn unit experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
