About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Critical Care & Burn Unit at Texas Health Fort Worth. The unit, Justin 5, is a 35-bed unit that provides higher-acuity surgical trauma and burn care. Staff are expected to work across both care areas. The facility is a MAGNET facility, Level I Trauma Center, and Primary Heart Attack Center (PHAC). The department emphasizes high-performing staff with excellent critical thinking skills, self-scheduling for work/life balance, and opportunities for educational and career growth. There is a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and an engaged leadership team. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:3-4.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 60 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • basic computer skills using medical management application systems

Nice To Haves

  • TNCC or ATCN - within 12 months of hire preferred
  • PCU and/or Critical Care experience preferred – will consider ED experience
  • Burn unit experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
