About The Position

Practices within the context of a patient and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses and practices within the scope of practice as set by the organization, as per VCH policies, decision support tools and within own competence. The Surgical Support Nurse acts as an auxiliary support for clinical care staff to enhance patient care at transitions in care by providing nursing care to patients as guided by clinical and operational priorities. This includes but is not limited to, providing patient care at admission, discharge and transfers between care areas and facilities.This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.
Requirements
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two (2) years’ recent, related clinical experience in the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.
- Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
- Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated patient group.
- General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
