About The Position

2 East cares for high‑acuity surgical patients who require frequent monitoring, multiple lines/tubes, and complex nursing care. The 32-bed unit specializes in Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery. Additional Surgical Populations include General Surgery, Trauma, and Plastic Surgery. 2 East is a fast‑paced, dynamic unit known for High volume and high patient turnover. Nurses will use constant clinical decision-making with diverse patient scenarios (including medicine overflow patients when beds permit). This unit is a strong professional foundation for nurses aspiring to: ICU roles Emergency Department roles Other high‑acuity specialties

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of nursing that results in the ability of the graduate to sit for the NCLEX exam to become licensed as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • BLS.
  • ACLS required for the following departments : Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, Emergency
  • Graduation from accredited nursing program.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age specific needs
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities of job description.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and revises an individualized plan of care
  • Uses teach back methodology to educate patient and family
  • Actively seeks to prevent potential hospital acquired
  • Effectively communicates patient status, priority goals and interventions during consultations, rounds and handoffs
  • Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures
