Registered Nurse (RN) Surgery - PRN. This is a PRN position with a wage scale of $56.65 – $78.08 per hour. It is a union position. Join our Surgery team and make a difference throughout every step of the patient experience. You’ll provide compassionate, high-quality care by preparing patients for procedures, obtaining vital signs, starting IVs, reviewing medications, and ensuring patients feel informed and comfortable before their procedure. You'll play a key role during procedures by assisting the care team, supporting anesthesia, documenting care, and ensuring patient safety protocols are followed. Following the procedure, you'll guide patients through recovery, provide discharge education, and help set them up for success at home. At WVMC, you'll work alongside a collaborative multidisciplinary team in a supportive environment that encourages professional growth while making a meaningful impact on the patients and community we serve.

Requirements

  • Current state or compact state RN license
  • Associate's degree from an accredited nursing school
  • BLS required
  • Must have a current state or compact state RN license.
  • Associate's degree required.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS & PALS preferred
  • Previous Acute Care, ICU, and PACU Preferred
  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
  • Documents patient care provided.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Prepares, positions, and transports patients for procedures.
  • Prepares surgical and endoscopy suites with solutions, scopes, equipment, and supplies.
  • Validates proper reprocessing of scopes for every procedure.
  • Assesses and cares for patients throughout the perioperative process, including pre-procedure and post-procedure care.
  • Operates specialized equipment and maintains a safe environment.
  • Accounts for use of supplies during surgical/endoscopy procedures.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs.
  • Provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances throughout the perioperative process.
  • Assists patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
  • Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts or units as needed.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
