Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, the unit, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge. This involves utilizing the nursing process, coordinating care provided by other professionals, delegating selected acts, tasks or functions, providing selected aspects of physical care, and documenting and communicating patient responses, resource consumption, and anticipated needs. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Responsibilities include collecting comprehensive data pertinent to patients’ health, analyzing assessment data to determine patient problems, identifying expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient, developing a plan that prescribes interventions, implementing the identified plan, and evaluating progress toward attainment of expected outcomes. Professional performance standards include systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, attaining knowledge and competency, evaluating one’s own nursing practice, interacting with and contributing to the professional development of peers and colleagues, collaborating with patient, family, and others, integrating ethical provisions, integrating research findings into practice, considering factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact on practice, and providing leadership. Specific responsibilities for the Scrub RN include interpreting procedure cards, assessing case carts for supplies, anticipating physician needs, observing patient condition changes, evaluating and updating case information, ensuring proper use of equipment, and acting as a specialist and resource for circulators. On-call duties are also a responsibility. For HDU Department, additional on-call requirements may apply. For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital, RNs are responsible for completing the Workday CBL – “Swing beds” and understanding the documentation differences and specific care required. Employees approved to work in a Swing Bed Facility may be expected to cover shifts at Bronson Lakeview Hospital and/or Bronson South Haven Hospital depending on patient acuity and staffing needs.
