About The Position

Centrally located in the south side of Milwaukee, this Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Surgery Center at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center is a full-time role. As part of the One Advocate Nurse community, you will be a nurse who redefines care by leading with purpose, compassion, and boldness. The Surgery Center has 4 Operating rooms and is hospital-based, offering a higher pay rate than stand-alone surgery centers. It primarily services ophthalmology, ortho, and plastics. Participation in OR Call and Holiday rotation is required. Weekday Call starts at end of shift through midnight. Weekend Call starts at 6:30 am through midnight. Holiday call starts at 6:30 am through midnight. OR Experience is preferred but the facility is willing to train the right candidate. The primary surgeries are Ophthalmology (Retina/Cataract/Glaucoma), with occasional Breast Plastic and Minor Hand Surgery.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • One year experience - and or surgical experience

Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized care using the nursing process—assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, mobilizing resources and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Promote patient safety by implementing risk-reduction strategies and reporting safety events promptly.
  • Verifies patient identity, allergies, and surgical site.
  • Educate patients and families, adapting teaching methods to meet unique learning needs and supporting readiness for discharge.
  • Coordinate care and discharge planning through an interdisciplinary approach, ensuring continuity across the healthcare continuum.
  • Lead and delegate effectively, fostering teamwork and supporting unlicensed personnel.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and unit performance.
  • Maintain professional growth through ongoing education, competency completion, and participation in shared governance activities.
  • Positioning of patient, maintains sterile and safe environment, prepares the OR with necessary supplies, time outs, checks for inventory, and documents all aspects of the procedure.
