About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor oversees and coordinates nursing care on assigned shifts to ensure high-quality, person-centered care in accordance with physician orders, regulatory standards, and facility policies. This leadership role is responsible for supervising licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants (CNAs), managing clinical operations during the shift, and supporting residents, families, and staff in a skilled nursing environment. The RN Supervisor serves as a clinical leader and resource, promoting safe practices, teamwork, and excellence in resident care.

Requirements

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment (required).
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting.
  • Strong clinical judgment and leadership skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of long-term care regulations, infection control, and resident safety practices.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic computer systems.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily nursing operations on the assigned shift.
  • Supervise, support, and guide LPNs/LVNs and CNAs in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care.
  • Delegate assignments appropriately based on resident needs, staff competency, and acuity.
  • Monitor staff performance, workflow, and time management to ensure efficient care delivery.
  • Address performance concerns, provide coaching, and initiate corrective actions in accordance with facility policy.
  • Monitor residents’ conditions and ensure timely and appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Respond to emergencies, changes in condition, and critical incidents promptly and effectively.
  • Perform or assist with resident assessments, care planning, medication administration, and treatments as needed.
  • Ensure continuity of care and adherence to individualized plans of care.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete nursing documentation by all staff.
  • Communicate resident status updates, concerns, and shift reports to oncoming staff and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Notify physicians, nurse practitioners, and families of changes in condition, incidents, or care needs as required.
  • Collaborate with administration and ancillary departments to support resident care goals.
  • Conduct routine shift rounds to observe care delivery and identify quality or safety concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, HIPAA requirements, resident rights, and facility policies.
  • Participate in audits, incident investigations, and quality assurance/performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with maintaining survey readiness and implementing corrective actions as directed.
  • Participate in orientation, training, and evaluation of new and current nursing staff.
  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource to promote professional growth and clinical excellence.
  • Support a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
  • Assist staff in managing challenging behaviors, high-acuity residents, and stressful situations.
