This role involves supervising direct care nursing staff, assisting in planning and evaluating nursing care services, and ensuring coordinated services with other units. The position also involves direct patient care, administering medications, and responding to emergencies.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio as issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.
  • 24 months of experience as a registered nurse.
  • 1 course or 3 months of experience in counseling.
  • 1 course or 3 months of experience in interviewing.
  • 3 courses or 9 months of experience in public relations.
  • 3 courses or 9 months of experience in employee training and development.
  • 6 courses or 18 months of experience in management.
  • OR 6 months of experience as Nurse 2, 65513.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises direct care nursing staff, including completing performance evaluations, handling disciplinary issues, providing counseling, assigning and monitoring work, recruiting, interviewing, and recommending hires.
  • Trains and orients new employees and develops and provides in-service training.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and evaluating all nursing care services.
  • Establishes and implements nursing care programs and reviews and updates current programs.
  • Serves as a nursing liaison with other units to ensure services are coordinated.
  • Directs record keeping and reporting procedures.
  • Coordinates nursing services with other resident services.
  • Conducts and/or attends health care meetings.
  • Provides leadership for quality assurance functions and requisitions medical supplies or equipment.
  • Communicates with resident families, physicians, and specialists.
  • Investigates care/abuse complaints.
  • Coordinates scheduling, assessments, planning, evaluation, and delivery of all nursing with appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Develops, schedules, conducts, and monitors in-service training programs.
  • Attends meetings, such as Utilization Review and Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.
  • Attends workshops and seminars.
  • Writes and reviews reports.
  • Coordinates staffing schedules, approves/disapproves leave requests in the absence of the staffing coordinator, conducts pick-a-post, manages overtime, and mandates overtime to meet staffing requirements.
  • Provides direct professional nursing care to patients.
  • Administers emergency care and first aid.
  • Conducts nursing rounds, assesses patients, and administers medications during the absence of nursing staff.
